OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!

OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!
An Analysis

Dr. Seuss is known as a Children’s Book Author but this book speaks to all people. It represents everyone of us who dreams, stops dreaming, fails, dreams again, and wins. HE said that you are the one who will decide where to go --whatever we will become is based on our decisions today. We have the brains and we have the feet to propel us to move depending on our decisions. When we are in school, it seems that the world is easy and small but when we graduate, we realize how wide and big it is. Our dreams may start to sound impossible and we are thrown off-track, there are those who are better and luckier than us. Others might be soaring now while you are still there, figuring out what to do in life. With the advent of social media, we feel pressured and unsuccessful especially if we compare our status to those who are living their dreams. Our dreams might not materialize because we can experience hang-ups and bang-ups. What are these?

According to Merriam-Webster, hang-up is something that causes you to feel worried, afraid and embarrassesd, while bang-up is something that causes damage. Dreams are not easy to reach. For example, I dreamed to be a doctor but because of financial difficulty and time, that dream is unlikely to happen now. So, I changed my dream which is to be a teacher at the same time, traveler. Our childhood dreams might not come true because we have other obligations but along the journey, we shape other dreams because we are also changing as a person.

There are times when we cannot go on; hence, the waiting game. We are stuck in a plateau of helplessness -waiting for  the big break without lifting  a finger, waiting for a miracle, waiting for someone to lift us up. But Dr. Seuss is telling us that we are better than that. We have to escape this waiting area, we have to jump over this barricade because there are still games to be won. In short, do not give up on life!

There are also times when we are all alone and it will get lonely. Our darkest enemy will be ourselves. But it says here, go on and hike far. Climb the mountain. Step carefully and thoughtfully. He is telling us that when we are determined to move mountains then we should also mix it with the right values. Dreaming is useless if our values and principles are compromised. I like it when he said that Life’s a great balancing act. WE balance our time, priorities, people, money, among others. On a final note, keep in mind that you are great and you are off to your next adventure!

AVALANCHE

AVALANCHE

The good memories, the beautiful moments
Spinning ‘round and fast but slowed down when you held my hand
You ignited a fiber in me; I wanted to dispense my soul TO YOU.
You were all goofy and chatty yet your blue eyes seemed to cry.
Can I save or fix you? Will you let me make you smile?
I reached out to you.
There’s hope.
We made our home within you.

But then our home started shaking off
With your words “Move on, I’ll hurt you more.”
I crashed into the sea, drowning in waves of emptiness and agony.
I wanted to love you through your peace and anxiety
I wanted to stay through your pain and healing
I wanted to see and kiss your ugliest parts
I wanted to hold you tight even if it tears me inside
Because I believe there’s a beautiful universe living in your mind.

Like the Big Bang, our worlds collided twice
I missed the warmth of your skin, your hype singing
Piggyback rides, kisses under the moonlit sky
Your chest rising and falling, your head between mine
Hugs from behind, scooting closer to your arms
Tangle of white sheets, I listened to your heartbeat
I wished we could stay like that for a lifetime…
But in the stillness of the night, you still chose to leave.

You knew I love you but your broke me anyway
You knew I care for you but your fears washed them away
I knew you were struggling but I highly hoped it would past
I knew you loved me but your panic and anxiety dragged you back.
I never got tired and I hated you for giving up
Was I not enough?
Did you try hard to let go of what’s holding you back?
Did you honestly try hard FOR THE BOTH OF US?

I wanted to hate you more but I cannot find any more reason to...
I can feel that you’re hurting more than I do.
I am sorry for asking you more of what you are afraid to give
I am sorry for everything I caused that made you feel at risk.
Our love is one great avalanche - -sudden, overwhelming
Dangerous, rapid, forceful, falling, descending
But know that it has been a beautiful sweep
Listen, you are loved and please, DO believe in it.

Baby, you don’t have to worry, I finally found the courage to set you free
Let us embrace our solitude; we’ll search for joy and tranquility separately.
You will grow in your own term and pace; your head will be out of the snow
I am filling-in my heart with self-love, the world is waiting and waving hello
True love never quits but it’s truer when you know how to stop
Though I left a flicker in my heart
In case you ever wanted to come back HOME
My Beautiful Avalanche.

Ode to Chance

Ode to Chance

Here I am
Waiting for your response
Expecting you to come
And here I am
With thoughts going back and forth
To  the memories of us in our silent room.

We finally met.
Movies, ice cream - We clicked.
I caught your smile.
We cuddle, wrestle and tell stories
But I saw your fear.
I wanted to help you.

This feeling is not new to me
But I like the comfort you bring
Falling into your arms
Hearing your breathing
Why can’t I resist someone
I am not attracted to?

Definitely I know where’s this heading
I am just another temptation.
An obstacle
That a man must hurdle
To find his fate.
I am a stepping stone.

But everything we had
I did not regret, I chose you
You will choose her, always.
And it is okay.
I will be fine
I have become so strong.

You might have broken some of my walls
But you did not break my heart
I am solely in-charge of it.
Thank you for the temporary happiness
For showing me
That I deserve more than this.

I might never had broken any of your walls
Because I never had your trust.
While I trusted you.
I did things I imagined I couldn’t do.
I metamorphosed into
A woman I barely know.

I won’t let you go
But I am letting go of myself being
Attached to you.
But can I ask you?
Have you ever liked me?
What have I been to you?

Did I ever make your heart beat?
Did I make you smile?
Did I make you see the world better?
I want to know.
Tell me now
This is the last time that I'll be waiting.

Parodies and a Sonnet

The River

Oh, she flows, spreads, the River! And she floats our dreams
Who cuddles us within her cool tideless appeal
She catches leaves and hides the fish in her bed so deep
A liquid theme where our history and culture swim.

Down, down, you will not hear her like the sea but drifts still
Don’t panic on her current for it heals – mind, body, grief
Today we rise like her, pouring with hope and concern

Where He, the open sea awaits for our sweet return.

(Parody of The Little Rain by Tu Fu)

Song, to a Stalker

Don’t look at me with your bulgy eyes,
Horrible! It’s not meant with mine;
Wipe that kiss within the cup,
Or take a bath using your wine.
The thirst that from your soul rise
Should never ask a drink so divine;
Honestly! I of Aphrodite’s nectar sup,
Would not even care for thine.

You sent thee late a rosy wreath
Well, gave me blisters and allergies
Rejection is all you can get there
It could not withered be!
The wreath you gave didst only breathe
Of dead rats, why senst to me?
Since when I’m a lady, marry I swear
Not of yourself, but thee.

(Parody of Song to Celia by Ben Jonson )

Obloquy

Rights! Furnish them all their —
Vinegar-soaked epidermis
                Bilabial thread- squeezed, hair
                Where their perfections uncease!:
Jack , they grant - affable be
Jill is as delightful as he!
I am: yet, barely one knows
Forsake me like cerebrum lost – say
Aye, labeled cannibal of my woes…
Still to be floured, eau de toilette
Lend me a look, tape me a face
To change my color – a grace?
But, He comes down, decides the   Race War
Rights! Furnish us with all our —

(Sonnet about Racial Discrimination)

These poems were written by a 3rd year college student. That is me. These are from her book A DESTINATION MICROCHIP, a travelogue which was the major requirement in the subject World Literature.
